An illustrated personal diary or 'Log Book' kept at Monte Rosa Villa, Kingham, near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, and at 17 Hanover Terrace, Regent's Park, London, by Lieutenant Colonel John Barrow, including also his visits to various parts of England and the Continent. The period covered is from August 1864 to November 1898. The illustrations consist of photographs and engravings, and there are also a very large number of cuttings from the Times and other papers illustrative of current public subjects or events (especially Arctic exploration, volunteers, Alpine climbing, the Ulverston district, and the English Lakes), as well as Christmas cards, valentines, and scraps of all kinds, including some letters.
