Collections relating to the dialects of England, to a large extent written (partly in shorthand) by Thomas Hallam, including 79 dialectical notebooks, which are the basis of much of Hallam's work and are notes of dialects taken on the spot. It must be understood that in the case of correspondence the letters from Mr. Hallam are usually represented by copies or drafts.

The 79 Dialectal Note-books within MSS. Eng. lang. g. 1-53, 55-79 are the basis of much of Mr. Hallam's work, being the actual notes of dialects taken on the spot: see MS. Eng. lang. d. 17; d. 27, fol. 83; e. 3.
