A copy of archbp. Richard Pococke's Tour in South and South-West Ireland in 1758 (July-Sept.), in a series of twenty letters. One of the original letters is at fol. 57, but the copies are not quite complete and are bound in perturbed order: the true order is fols. 1-3, 5-15b, 4, 18-31, 16-17, 32-9, 42-3, 40-1, 48-56, 44-7.

This valuable series appears not to be as yet printed, and the original MS. of nineteen of the letters is not at present known to exist. The author's name is not in the volume, except as suggested in a modern hand on fol. i. It is possible that this copy is by the archbishop as well as the original letter, but written in a more careful and apparently different hand.

Other Finding Aids

Falconer Madan, et al., A summary catalogue of western manuscripts in the Bodleian Library at Oxford which have not hitherto been catalogued in the Quarto series (7 vols. in 8 [vol. II in 2 parts], Oxford, 1895-1953; reprinted, with corrections in vols. I and VII, Munich, 1980), vol. V, no. 30722

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This may have come with the Radcliffe MSS. in 1872, for Pococke (who died in 1765) bequeathed his MSS. not otherwise expressly disposed of to the Radcliffe Library: or it may have belonged to his cousin dean Jeremiah Milles.
