Collection of anthems, probably for use in a northern parish. Nearly all the anthems and chants were copied from printed sources. v + 467 pages.

'Part the first': nine anthems in score. All but the last were copied from Edward Betts, An Introduction to the Skill of Mustick, 1724. Indexed on p. iii.

John Bishop, Sett of New Psalm Tunes, 1710 and 1722.

John Chetham, Book of Psalmody, first three editions (3rd, 1724).

John Church, Introduction to Psalmody, 1723.

Israel Holdroyd, The Spiritual Man's Companion, 2nd ed., 1722.

Ely Stanefield, Psalmody Epitomiz'd, 1st ed., 1714.

On pp. 460-467 is a list of the contents of pp. 80-288, in which these sources are indicated: I. B. for Bishop, I. C. for Chetham, I. Ch. for Church, I. H. for Holdroyd and E. S. for Stansfield. On pp. 456-458 is an index of pp. 289-449. The source of anthems is indicated in the text from pp. 289-359, and after that in some cases only in the index: Dr. C. is Dr. Croft; J. Bar. - Mr. Barret: (Psalm of Thanksgiving, printed in 1706); and T. W. - Thomas Wanless. The chants on pp. 77-79 were a later addition and were not indexed.

No printed source is known for the following:

(pp. i-ii) 'Anthem. Ps. 77. By Mr. H. Hall'. Melody only, added after the main contents of the book was written.

(p. 394) 'A Hymn by Dr. Croft', O world'.

(p. 415) 'Tho. Wanleys', Anthem, 'I will arise'.

(p. 449) 'Thos Wanleys', Anthem, 'Lord how are they increas'd'.
