Abstract
A copy of the printed edition of the rev. John Lewis's History of the Life ... of ... John Wicliffe (Lond. 1723)
Biographical / Historical
John Lewis (1675-1747) was an antiquary.
Other Finding Aids
Falconer Madan, et al., A summary catalogue of western manuscripts in the Bodleian Library at Oxford which have not hitherto been catalogued in the Quarto series (7 vols. in 8 [vol. II in 2 parts], Oxford, 1895-1953; reprinted, with corrections in vols. I and VII, Munich, 1980), vol. V, no. 30436
Custodial History
Owned perhaps by J. Ames in 1747 (see foll. 186, 193v), and afterwards by sir Peter Thompson: in the Thompson sale in April, 1815, it was bought by messrs. W. Clarke & Sons, London booksellers, who sold it to the Delegates of the Clarendon Press, and from it the Oxford edition of 1820 was printed.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
When their purpose had been thus fulfilled, the delegates no doubt presented the volume to the Bodleian in around 1890.
