A collection of medical receipts, prayers in case of illness
A collection of medical receipts, prayers in case of illness, and charms or incantations, chiefly in English, sometimes in Latin:
- An early item (fol. 3) is directions for making a magic chrystal
- At fol. 10v is 'Operis huius finis', and the rest of the book instead of being early 16th cent. is of the second half of that century
- At fol. 22 is 'The Epistle of S. Savior which Pope Leo [iii?] sent to kinge Charles [the Great?]', beg. 'The crosse of Christ'
- At fol. 23 is a copy of the writing which 'Ioseph of Arimathea did find ... vpon the woundes of the syde of Jesus ...', beg. 'Fons + Alpha et omega.'
The whole volume is written on the margins cut (often with fragments of the writing and musical notes remaining) from a 15th cent. Latin antiphoner written in England.
