'The Sacred Warr...', a poem chiefly on the Crusades
'The Sacred Warr, an History conteyning the Christian Conquest of the Holy Land ... [etc.], from ... anno 568 till anno 1588 ... Reduced into a Poem Epike by Robert Barret 1610' [altered from 1606?, cf. p. 1110], a very long poem, chiefly on the Crusades, in rhyming quatrains; with prefaces, arguments to the thirty-two books, notes and indexes. The number of lines probably exceeds 65000.
At p. 1117 is a prose account of the' Military offices of the Turkish Empery.'

Custodial History
On the inner cover is an armorial hook plate, perhaps of John Dugdale of Blithe Hall, Warwickshire ('Nicholls sculp. 1729'). Owned by 'Robert Southey, London, 1813': in the Thomas Corser sale, first part (1868), lot 188, and sold to - Bumstead, bookseller.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
In the James Crossley sale, second part, June 20, 1885, (lot 2921) when it was bought for the Library for £9 10s.
