- Preceded by memoirs of the writer's mother, Elizabeth Freind (p. xxvii); his daughter, Sarah (p. xxix); and his brother, John Freind (p. xliii)
- The 'memorialls' (p. 1) are an account of the life and death of John Freind, who matriculated at St. Edmund's Hall, March 26th, 1672, and died there on March 20th, 1672/3, illustrated by the correspondence which passed between him and his father
- Most of John Freind's letters are in Latin and have English translations appended
- At p. 227 is the Latin funeral oration delivered over John Freind by John Barrow of St. Edmund's hall, and at p. 278 are several elegies in Latin and in English upon his death
- These are followed by the 'Remaines of ... John Freind' (p. 305), viz. some sets of English and Latin verses and some Latin exercises in prose and verse written by him at Oxford, also his letters written from school at Bristol in 1668-9, his accounts of expenses at college, and further biographical notes by his father
