'Collections relating to [Oxford] University Degrees made by the late John Anstis Esqr., being his Original Manuscript, purchased at the Auction of his Books etc., December 15th, 1768, by Doctor Ducarel.'

The object of the work is explained by a note at fol. 5: 'The occasion of this incoherent Rhapsody of Collections was in that the Chancellorship of the Diocese of Durham being void, and the Right Reverend Dr. Chandler Bishop thereof designing to promote one of his sons thereto, who had not any Academical Degree, being then some Officer in the Custome House of London, in Order thereto, his son was created a Master of Arts by Dr. Potter, Archbishop of Canterbury, who himself had not only been educated in the University of Oxford, but for a long time Professor of Divinity therein, which he held with the Bishoprick of Oxford.'
