Biographical / Historical
Konstantin Alexandrovich Vorobiev, Russian ornithologist, was born 1899 in Moscow and died 1988. He was educated at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. Both as a student and after completing his degree, Vorobiev took part in various expeditions within the Soviet Union, including in the Moscow Governorate, Siberia, the Russian Far East and Turkmenistan.
His published articles include 'Wintering Birds and Migration on the South Coast of the Caspian Sea', together with J.A. Isakov, 1940, 'Birds of the Ussuri Region', 1954, 'Results of an ornithological exploration of the Cherski range', published in Ornithologia, No. 2, 1959, pp. 118-119, and 'Birds of Yakutia', 1963.
In 1964 Vorobiev was awarded the title Honoured Scientist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. He retired in 1965, but continued with private research, funding his own expeditions to Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. He also wrote 'Notes of an Ornithologist', published in two editions by Nauka, 1978, a memoir of his life as an ornithologist and his work as a researcher.
