Abstract
Papers of Alexander John Wiley.
Biographical / Historical
Alexander John Wiley was born in England in 1917. He moved to Ruiru, Kenya, aged 9, where his parents farmed. From 1936, he worked in the Veterinary Laboratory at Kabete. He intended to become a veterinary surgeon, but was forced to give up his studies in England in 1945, due to ill health. Returning to Kenya, he resumed his duties at Kabete, latterly holding the post of Zoologist in the Zoological and Tsetse Research Section. Wiley was an authority on African ticks and on helminthology and was also interested in natural history, serving as a member of the East Africa Natural History Society Committee. He died in 1959.
