Reports of messengers and scouts sent out by or returning to sir Samuel Luke, commanding troops during the Civil War on the Parliament side in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, from Feb. 9, 1642/3 to March 29, 1644. These are of considerable value for the details of operations in and round Oxford and in the West of England, and it is clear that it was not difficult during all this period for spies to enter and leave Oxford.

The reports and notes were apparently posted up in this book at short intervals, and are in several handwritings. There are also notes of forms of warrants, etc. (fol. 132v), and at fol. 131 an account of the affair of Chalgrove field on June 18, 1643.
