'Elegantiores Conciones, Orationes, Epistolæ, vna cum alijs notatu dignioribus exercitijs, Ex proprio nec non alieno pulchrius transcribuntur: 1653: Henr: Wilkinson:' a commonplace book of dr. Henry Wilkinson, principal of Magdalen hall 1648-62 (d. 1690), in which he has entered 101 letters from himself, 25 to himself, and about 50 speeches and documents of public interest, chiefly relating to the University and generally in Latin.
The contents appear to be of about 1615-85, the writing, which is not always Wilkinson's, of 1653-85. Among them a few may be mentioned, but a full list is prefixed at p. i:
- Pp. 17, 62, 69, 251. Latin letters to Ludovicus Molinaeus, 1653-64, with two from the latter (pp. 36, 67), 1653-4
- P. 202. A Latin letter of the University to Richard Cromwell on his acceptance of the Chancellorship, Jan. 17, 1657
- Pp. 87, 88, 116. Three sets of verses (two in English) on the death of mrs. Elizabeth Wilkinson, 1654
- P. 403. Varieties in Latin and English, such as proverbs, witty sayings, epigrams, etc.
