Biographical / Historical
(James) Denis Summers-Smith, ornithologist and mechanical engineer, was born in Glasgow in 1920, but settled in Guisborough, North Yorkshire, in 1961. He graduated with a degree in Metallurgy in 1947 and gained his PhD in Physics in 1953. He is a founder member, and former chairman, of Teesmouth Bird Club, founded in 1960.
