Wight's musical collection comprises many volumes written by John Awbery, Fellow of New College, Oxford, and many of which had been owned or annotated by William and Philip Hayes. Such as are not connected with Oxford musicians are largely either English songs or Italian compositions.

Biographical / Historical

Rev. Osborne Wight matriculated at Oriel College, Oxford, on 17 October 1771, and took his BA degree from New College in 1776 (MA 1780). He was Fellow of New College, and died in 1800.

Other Finding Aids

Falconer Madan, et al., A summary catalogue of western manuscripts in the Bodleian Library at Oxford which have not hitherto been catalogued in the Quarto series (7 vols. in 8 [vol. II in 2 parts], Oxford, 1895-1953; reprinted, with corrections in vols. I and VII, Munich, 1980), vol. IV, nos. 16670-16878.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

By his will Wight appears to have left some specified volumes to a Mr Swanton, and to have allowed the Library to select what it desired, both of printed and manuscript matter, from the rest. These 209 manuscripts appear to have thus come in the year 1801.
