  1. Fol. 7. 'An Alphabet of Kenticisms ... to which is added, A collection of Proverbs & old Sayings, wch are either used in, or do relate to the same County ... By Samuel Pegge ...': the preface is dated Apr. 11, 1735, which appears to be the date of the writing, cf. fol. 98. This art. was printed almost entire by prof. Skeat for the English Dialect Society in 1876
  2. Fols. 69, 99, 143. 'Derbycisms' in three separate collections, the last written probably in about 1790
  3. Fol. 151. 'Proverbs & Proverbial Sayings', a list and short discussion on each
  4. Fol. 217. 'A Glossary explaining certain Oaths & Exclamations ... which ... are now become ... obscure ... By Paul Gemsege, Gent.', i.e. Samuel Pegge

Bought from John Gough Nichols (whose receipt for £10 10s. is on fol. 5v) on June 6, 1832, by sir Frederick Madden.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

At Madden's sale in August 1873 bought by prof. W. W. Skeat, who presented it to the Bodleian on June 23, 1896.
