Latin exercises, poems, and letters collected by an Oxford man (probably of Christ Church), and chiefly relating to Oxford in about 1625-40. Among the poems are:

  1. 'In admissionem Decani Duppa', 1629 (fol. 7v, cf. 30)
  2. 'In magistrum [Johannem] Sedgwick pastorem parochiæ de Bysly ...' (fol. 12)
  3. On an outrage done to Petrarch's tomb (fol. 15v)
  4. 'Rich. [Corbet] Oxoniensis episcopi Genethliacon' (fol. 17)
  5. Obituary poems on Peter Bond 'huius cedis alumnus' (fol. 5v), Pendricke, fellow of Jesus College (fol. 7), --Prowde 'huius ædis socius' (fol. 10), Leonard Hutten, 1632 (fol. 19), Robert Hughes, 1632 (fol. 19v)
  6. A few are on public subjects (foll. 10, 20, 107, etc.)
  7. At fol. 21 are 19 prose letters to 'Mæcenas' (i.e. Duppa?), or officers of Christ Church
  8. At fol. 35 many prose exercises, theses, and declamations
  9. At the end (fol. 133) is a poem on Ben Jonson's death, 1637 beg. 'In quæ proijcior discrimina')

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Bought.. Oct. 15, 1895, being no. 509 in the cat. of J. E. Cornish for that month: where it is suggested that the MS. is in the hand of Thomas Lushington, bp. Corbet's chaplain, but this is quite doubtful.
