Abstract

Circular letter, and report by Chris F. Mason, relating to the British Trust for Ornithology's pilot survey of the Inland Wader Enquiry.

Biographical / Historical

Introduction to the report: 'In 1971 the BTO/RSPB estuaries enquiry aimed to obtain monthly counts of the large wader flocks present in their main feeding and roosting areas. It was felt that more regular coverage of inland sites might yield useful supplementary information, and would be the chief source of data for species of waders that do not normally frequent estuaries. In the pilot survey, waders were counted weekly at a number of inland sites from July to November 1971'.
