William Richmond Postle Bourne was born in 1930 in Bedford, England, son of William Arthur Bourne and Joyce Postle. Bachelor in Medicine, Cambridge, 1955. Master of Arts, Cambridge, 1955. Field Assistant, Edward Grey Institute, Oxford, 1958-1961. Senior House Officer, Watford General Hospital, 1963-1970. Medical Chief Officer, Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, British Navy, 1983-1991. Research Fellow, Aberdeen (Scotland) University, 1970-2004.
