Papers of the Reverend Samuel Gilbert Scott (1847-1916), churchman and amateur ornithologist

Biographical / Historical

Samuel Gilbert Scott was born in Brighton in 1847. He was educated at Brighton College and Magdalen College, Oxford before entering the church in 1873. Between 1873 and 1892 he held positions in Battersea and Woolwich. From 1892 until his death he was Rector of Havant in Hampshire. He was elected a member of the British Ornithologists' Union in 1907 and made frequent excursions to Scotland to observe birds and for fishing, but he did not contribute to ornithological literature.
