Abstract

Papers accumulated by Jeremy Murray-Brown while researching his biography of Jomo Kenyatta.

Biographical / Historical

Jeremy Murray-Brown (b. 1932) studied modern history at the University of Oxford and worked for BBC Television and as a writer and director of documentaries. He began work on a television documentary about Jomo Kenyatta and this developed into a biography, Kenyatta, published in 1972 and republished in 1979.

Jomo Kenyatta (c.1895-1978) was president of Kenya, 1964-1978. For further details see the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

The majority of the papers have been kept in the original order in which they were arranged by Jeremy Murray-Brown.

Existence and Location of Originals

There are no original letters from Jomo Kenyatta in the archive. It is not known whether the originals are still in existence.
