Twenty-four original letters from Oliver Sansome, the Quaker of Boxford (d. 1710), almost all to his wife, 1666-1686, chiefly from Reading gaol and signed 'O.S.' On fol. 6v is a drawing of Boxford church. Some printed pieces are also in the volume.

Biographical / Historical
Oliver Sansom (1636-1710) was a local Quaker leader and farmer.

Custodial History
The letters were owned by John White, great-nephew of Sansome (see fol. 57): at his death they passed to J. W. Roake.
These are all printed in the Life of Sansome, and are here connected by a valueless account of the writer by J. W. Roake, draper of Newbury, who owned the letters in about 1840-1848.

Bought from Λ. Russell Smith, the London bookseller, on Nov. 8, 1875, for £4 4s.
