Seventy-two sermons on the 53rd chapter of Isaiah, written in a Scotch hand, preceded by a short index. These were printed as by James Durham (d. 1658) with the title 'Christ crucify'd or the Marrow of the Gospel', in 1683 or earlier.

There is no clue to the author in the MS., but the first sermon is dated 'March 6, 1656.'

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Bought at messrs. Puttick and Simpson's, Aug. 7, 1867 (lot 450), for £1 1s.: the sale catalogue attributes the sermons to dr. John Owen, dean of Christ Church, Oxford, who died in 1683.
