Accounts of Roman altars, inscriptions and antiquities, collected by John Bell, landsurveyor, Gateshead
'Accounts of Roman altars, inscriptions and antiquities, collected by John Bell, landsurveyor, Gateshead.' Mr. Bell was founder of the Antiquarian Society of Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1813, and the contents of the present volume relate almost entirely to antiquities in the north of England, and especially such as were acquired by the Antiquarian Society.
There are many papers and plans connected with the Castle of Newcastle (fol. 83), the Roman Wall (fol. 42), and the camp and antiquities at Risingham (fol. 290), as well as drawings of antiquities, cuttings from newspapers, printed extracts from periodicals and the like, and miscellaneous antiquarian correspondence of mr. Bell, chiefly from about 1835 to 1850.
