An original survey of all the possessions, spiritual and temporal, of the Benedictine abbey of St. Mary at Glastonbury, in the form of a certificate from Richard Pollard and Thomas Moyle, made apparently in September, 1539, after the attainder of the last abbot.

There are several finely-executed pen-and-ink ornamental drawings, with the royal arms, pictures of Veritas, 'Solymon Turscher' (the Grand Turk), etc.

Biographical / Historical

Sir Richard Pollard (d. 1542) was a law reporter and exchequer official.

Sir Thomas Moyle (b. before 1500 - d. 1560) was a lawyer and speaker of the House of Commons.

Presented by Charles Gray, M.P. for Colchester, on March 2, 1750/1, together with a Phoenician inscription on stone from Citium.

It is printed in full in Hearne's edition of Langtoft's Chronicle (Oxf. 1735) ii. 343 from this MS., and re-printed in Ellis's edition of Dugdlale's Monasticon, i. 10. Hearne's transcript (now in MS. Rawl. B. 182) was made from a copy of this original, now MS. Somerset rolls 10.
