'Tractatus de curatione et causis Arthritidis, scriptus ab Authore jam septuagesimum ætatis annum agente, qui et illâ [sc. arthritide] laboravit per quadraginta et sex annos', a treatise on the gout in eleven chapters, written anonymously by the Rev. John Babb. Hearne notes 'Bibliothecæ Bodlejanæ dono dedit Joannes Babb, Rector de Theddlethorpe [St. Helen's] in agro Lincolniæ, qui & ipse scripsit.'

A letter from the rev. L. D. Kennedy, rector of that parish, dated July 18, 1881 (at p. 96), states that John Babb died on May 8, 1717, having been rector since at least 1672. He was no doubt the John Babb who graduated at Cambridge from Caius college (B.A. 1660, M.A 1664).
