Autograph book with letters addressed to Peggy Hardaker contained in envelopes pasted into the book. Signatures in book include: John Gielgud; Lauri Kennedy; Naomi [Mitchum]; Fred Babon (card pasted into book); Roger Quilter; typescript appointment card from Jacquetta Hawkes, 13 Jan 1960; typescript card from secretary of A.P. Herbert, 16 Apr 1932; Daniel Melba; Ida Hurst; and Stuart Robertson.

Original letters have been removed from pasted envelopes in book and are arranged separately as follows:

  5. Manuscript letter from George Lamb, 20 Sep 1951 [Manchester postmark], acknowledging letter of praise for his book.
  6. Typescript letter, senders name cut out, to 'Peggy Hardiker' [sic], 1952 [Argyll postmark], arranging a meeting concerning an advertisement.
  7. Typescript letter from J.B. Priestley, 27 Jan 1960 [Stratford-on-Avon postmark], job application rejection. Signed.

Abstract

Autograph book compiled by Margaret (Peggy) Hardaker containing signatures and letters, primarily from authors, c.1931-1980.

Arrangement

Letters removed from envelopes pasted into the book are stored in a separate folder within the box. Numbered slips of paper have been inserted into the autograph book where a letter has been removed, the order of which corresponds to the arrangement of the letters in the folder.

Donated to the Bodleian Library in 2019.
