A Latin diploma by which Leopold I, emperor of the Romans, appoints Jacobus Albanus Ghibbesius a poeta laureatus, dated at Laxenburg in Austria, May 2, 1667, signed by 'Leopoldus', 'Christophorus Abele', and 'Joan: Paul: Hocher', and enrolled by 'Hermannus de Berlinghof'.
The seal, attached by silver wire, is a fine and elaborate one in red wax, 5 1/2 inches in diameter, enclosed in a circular wooden box with one rim partly broken.

Presented by James Alban Gibbes, or Ghibbes, Apr. 5, 1670, together with a gold chain (now kept in the Ashmolean Museum) and medal given to him on the occasion of his appointment. His accompanying letter of gift is printed in Wood's Fasti Oxonienses, ed. Bliss, p. 340.
