'De expeditione in Ream insulam. Authore Edovardo Domino Herbert Barone de Cherbury in Anglia et Castri insulæ; de Kerry in Hibernia et Pare utriusque Regni. Anno MDCXXX.' There is a dedication to king Charles dated Aug. 10, 1630, and a preface 'Ad Lectorem'. The work itself (which was published in London in 1656) is in thirty-two chapters, and begins 'Æræ inter nostros receptæ'. The expedition against the island of Rhé or Ré was in 1627. The volume is not in Herbert's own writing.

This volume first appears in Bodleian lists about 1655, but it may be conjectured to have arrived with or soon after MS. Bodl. 910, MS. e Mus. 131, that is to say about 1643/4 or 1644.
