Two notebooks of Warwickshire justices of the peace, 17th century:

  1. (fols. 1-17) record of out of sessions business, mainly examinations of witnesses, kept by Waldive Willington, 1647-1648;
  2. (fols. 18-27) memoranda of Samuel Ebrall, 1653-1655, including (fols. 18v-22) list of marriages celebrated before him, 1654-1655.

Abstract

Biographical / Historical

Waldive Willington (fl. 1647-1648) was a justice of the peace.

Samuel Ebrall (fl. 1653-1655) was a justice of the peace.

Custodial History

Many names are scribbled throughout, 17th cent., including (fol. 17b) 'Mr. Thomas Tomkins', 1656.

Bought by Sir Thomas Phillipps, Puttick & Simpson, 29 July 1867 (Robert Cole sale), lot 907; Phillipps MS. 19191; Sotheby's, 21 March 1895, lot 1236.
