Henry Cotton (1789-1879) was sub-librarian of the Bodleian Library, 1814-22. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The notebooks were given to the Library by Henry Cotton's grand-daughter, Miss M. F. Gaisford, in 1946.
