Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) was an English novelist and poet. William John Courthope (1842-1917) was an English poet and literary scholar. William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898) was an English statesman and liberal politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for 12 years spread between 1868 and 1894. William Bright (1824-1901) was an English church historian.
