Biographical / Historical

Sir Thomas Roe (1581-1644) was an English diplomat of the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods. He sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1644.

A copy of this manuscript was owned by Thomas Smith of Magdalen College, Oxford, c.1690: see A. Wood, Athenae Oxonienses, ed. P. Bliss, iii (London, 1817), 113; bookplate of Charles Bruce, Viscount Bruce of Ampthill, 1716; shelf-marks on pastedown '128:H:4' and 'cat. 72', probably 18th cent.; Sotheby's, 3 March 1919 (Marquess of Ailesbury sale), lot 482.
