Full score of 'Princess Ida' by Sir Arthur Sullivan, prepared with the aid of three copyists from incomplete drafts for the use of the copyists of performing score and parts, c. 1883. The music is complete, but passages occurring more than once are indicated by numbers over the bars.

  1. A skeleton score, consisting usually of ice poarts, was written by Sullivan himself except on fols. 21-2v, 33-4v, 62-9 and 110-12v, where it was the work of a copyist. The score was completed and corrections were made by Sullivan at various times
  2. In introduction, bars 1-12 on fols. 1v-2 and the bars numbered 1-22 on fols. 3v-4v were transcribed by the second copyist, with the guidance of violin, flute and oboe parts in Sullivan's and, according to the blue-pencilled instructions on fols.30 and 3v
  3. Fols. 24-6 , containing no.4, are in the hand of the third copyist, who also wrote titles on fols. 7 and 50.

Blank leaves occur at ends of numbers, and where substantial alterations were made at fols. 73v, 75v, 155v. Fols. 43, 73, 75, 146 and 155 were inserted.
