Abstract

Research material of Geoffrey Hodges for his book The Carrier Corps: Military Labor in the East African campaign, 1914-1918 (1986) including the texts of interviews with veterans of the Corps.

Biographical / Historical

Geoffrey Hodges was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. After a short time as a district officer in Uganda he taught history at schools in England, Wales, Zambia and Kenya where he began researching the Carrier Corps. He died in 1994.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated to the Bodleian Library by Mrs G. Hodges (widow) in 1998.
