Biographical / Historical

Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879), nee Pattle, was a portrait photographer. Her work was often allegorical in nature.

Custodial History

Purchased by the vendor's father at a sale of the contents of Halstead Place, Kent in the 1940s.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Purchased in 2017. Lot 20 in Bonhams' Fine Books, Atlases, Manuscripts and Photographs sale held 15 Nov 2017, London.

Related Materials

The photographs were in a folder together with documents and personal papers relating to Anna Atkins (1799-1871). These papers were donated by the vendor to the Bodleian Library in 2017 and are MS. 12466.
