Manuscript volume containing a course of education for a young lady
Manuscript volume in a black morocco binding, watermarked 'Simmons 1814', and containing a course of education for a young lady. It may have been written by a mother or tutor, though both the author and recipient are unknown. The volume contains an introduction, consisting of an essay on the virtues of female education, and five divisions headed Architecture, Heraldry, Mechanics, Astronomy and Natural History. The volume ends with 20 hand-drawn 'plates' depicting architectural features, heraldic crests and mechanical concepts.
