Two files of papers, in Beckford's wrappers, 1787, 1797-8

- The first file (fols. 1-36) is inscribed by Beckford 'Falmouth letters' (wrapper watermarked 1832), and contains rough notes, drafts and later fair copies of letters written at Falmouth while Beckford was waiting for a passage to Portugal, 3-14 March 1787; versions of some of the letters are printed in Italy ii (1834), pp. 1-22; (fol. 26). 'Breakfast Conversation' is printed in England's wealthiest son, pp. 126-7. The file includes (fols. 28-36) rough notes made at Falmouth, written on letters and lists of books from Theophilus Thornton, possibly added to the file by Boyd Alexander.
- The second file (fols. 37-80) contains letters and copies of letters to and from Beckford, William Pitt, Lord Portland, Lord Thurlow and Nicholas Williams, concerning negotiations for peace with France, 1797-8, with (fols. 63-6) 'A statement of facts addressed to the public' by Beckford
- (fols. 81-90) a blank notebook, wrapper inscribed by Beckford 'Ld. Thurlow &c'
