Biographical / Historical

John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland (1784-1859) served in the British army in Sicily, 1806-7, and in the Peninsular, 1808-10; he was minister plenipotentary in Florence, 1814-30, and resident minister at Berlin, 1841-51. See Dictionary of National Biography.

Arrangement

The correspondence was arranged and uniformly bound in half black morocco gilt, marbled boards, in 1858 and (MS. Eng. d. 2577) 1859. Each volume has a list of contents which summarises the subject matter of each item.
