The papers consist of typescript drafts of the biography Radical Diplomat. The Life of Archibald Clark Kerr, Lord Inverchapel 1882-195, London: I.B. Tauris & Co. Ltd., 1999, together with notes and comments by the Lewthwaite family. MS. Eng. c. 6278 contains correspondence between Gillies and acquaintances of Lord Inverchapel.

Biographical / Historical

Donald Gillies is a historian and freelance author.

Sir William Anthony Lewthwaite (1912-1993), 3rd Bt. was the son of Sir William Lewthwaite, 2nd Bt. and Beryl Mary Stopford Hickman. In 1936, he married Lois Mairi Kerr Clark (1915-2001), daughter of Captain Struan Robertson Kerr Clark ('Robin', Archibald Clark Kerr's brother) and Lady Beatrice Moore.

The papers were given to the Library by Donald Gillies in 1999.
