Biographical / Historical

Dmitry Svyatopolk Mirsky (1890-1939) was a Russian scholar who began writing poems and critical articles while at school. From 1921 to 1932 he was lecturer in Russian at the School of Slavonic Studies, King's College, University of London, and during this time published books and articles in English on Russian literature, culture and history. On his return to Russia he worked as a Soviet literary critic until his arrest during the Great Purge. He died in a labour camp in Siberia. See the Dictionary of National Biography.
