Business records of the Wall family of Burford (1796-1940)
Biographical / Historical
Abiah Daniel, a member of a family of flax-dressers, established a haberdashery in the High Street in Burford, Oxfordshire at the end of the 18th century. She subsequently married an Eynsham ropemaker, James Wall, who set up a ropemaking business in the High Street. This business was continued by his son Jabez and developed late in the 19th century into a general goods store and builders merchants. His son, Jabez James Wall, diversified into cycle manufacture and repairs in the early 20th century
