'This is my birthday' compiled with apposite quotations by Anita Bartle with an introduction by Israel Zangwill (London: Grant Richards, 1902). The book was first published in 1902 drawing on Bartle's own extracts from the column in the Daily Chronicle. The book documents the birthdays of notable figures with related quotes from various authors. This is a presentation copy from the author to H.G. Wells, whom the author selected for the date of his birthday (21 September) and whose quote appears under the date of 6 April. In this, his own copy of the book, Wells added his own diminutive signature on the relevant date and a quotation from Keats (related to himself) and from Shakespeare (related to his wife). The book provides a record of visitors to the Wells household. Apart from the representatives of the Wells family, it features signatures (sometimes dated) of eminent, mainly literary, figures from around the world: Josephine Blumenfeld, R.D. Blumenfeld, Leo Chiozza Money, Korney Chukovsky, Joseph Conrad, Henry D. Davray (the French translator of Wells, Wilde et al.), Newman Flower, Charles Hagberg-Wright, E.S.P. Haynes, Syud Hossain, Violet Hunt, Robert Lynd, Sylvia Lynd, Vladimir Nabokov (1870-1922), Conrad Noel, Sydney Olivier, Marmaduke Pickthall, Robert Ross, A. Sargant-Florence, Alix Strachey, Frank Swinnerton and A. N. Tolstoy. Inserted in the book are two punch cards.
