Custodial History
Bequeathed in 1817 to the author’s sister Cassandra Austen (1773-1845); on her death passed to their youngest brother, Charles (1779-1852), and then by descent to his eldest daughter, Cassandra Esten (1808-1897), and to Cassandra Esten’s nieces, the daughters of Charles’s son Charles John Austen.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Bought from H. Deacon through R.W. Chapman and given by the Friends of the Bodleian, 1933.
