Letter from Edward Wilbraham Bootle to John Blackburne
The letter concerning Bootle's visit to St Petersburg during a two year tour of Russia, Siberia, and the Crimea with the Oxford don, John Parkinson . Bootle's letters includes a description of an audience held by Catherine the Great for Polish ambassadors following the Polish-Russian War of 1792; his assessment of the prospects of a scheme of the Duke of Richelieu to establish a colony in the Crimea for 6000 people fleeing the French Revolution; a discussion of the political situation in Sweden; and Russian opinions of Charles James Fox.
