There is comprehensive coverage of chronicles and chancery rolls and useful information on more obscure sources such as continental material and 19th century local publications.

The notes include a catalogue of churches under Lancaster's patronage,information on relics and iconographic representations of Lancaster, material on the cult of other political saints (including Thomas Becket, Thomas of Cantilupe and Edward II) and information on the general history of Edward II's reign, particularly his relations with cardinals and the Roman church.
