Typescript memoir written by Charles Celt Thomas in 1950 of the life of his father, Thomas Morgan Thomas, who was a pioneer missionary in Southern Africa working with Robert Moffat. The memoir includes detailed information on Thomas' parents, siblings and children and has some manuscript amendments and additions. 84 pages.

Biographical / Historical

Thomas Morgan Thomas was born in South Wales in 1828 and ordained in May 1858. In June 1858 he sailed for Cape Town under the auspcices of the London Missionary Society to join the Matabele Mission where he served until his death from typhoid in 1884.

In May 1858 Thomas married Annie Morgan and they had three children born in Africa. Annie died at Inyati in June 1862. In 1864 Thomas married Caroline Hutchinson Elliott and they had eleven children. Their third son, Charles Celt Thomas, was born in 1871 and practised as a land surveyor in the Free State and Transvaal for over fifty years until his death in 1953.
