Biographical / Historical

John W. Stacpoole (fl 1926-1996) was educated at Sedburgh School and Magdalen College, Oxford, then undertook military service, 1944-1947, rising to the rank of lieutenant. He was made Assistant Principal, Colonial Office in 1951 and Principal, 1956. He served as Assistant Private Secretary to the Secretary of State, 1954-1956, was seconded to Sierra Leone, 1956-1958, was Private Secretary to the Secretary of State, 1964-1965, and Assistant Secretary, 1965.
