Biographical / Historical

Arthur F.W. Sheffield, OBE (fl 1907-1958) worked in Nigeria as Superintendent of Agriculture from 1930, Senior Agricultural Officer from 1946, Principal from 1949, Research Adviser, Agricultural Department from 1952, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Eastern Region from 1951 and Director, 1954-1958.

Custodial History

The Food and Cash Crops collection comprises material initially donated to the Oxford Development Records Project, which invited former members of the Colonial Agricultural Service to submit a memorandum dealing with their work in the development of food and cash crops after 1945 in the territories in which they served.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The papers were donated to the library as part of the collection, Food and Cash Crops in 1984.
