Biographical / Historical
John Bart Shearer (1904-1962) joined the Indian Civil Service in 1929 and was posted to the Punjab. He became Under-Secretary to the Government of India Finance Department in 1933 and Deputy Secretary, 1935. His postings thereafter included Commissioner of Income Tax, 1939, member of the Central Board of Revenue, Government of Pakistan, 1947, Manager for Greece, Ionian Bank Ltd., 1950-1957, and member of the Nigerian Minorities Commission, 1957-1958. Awarded the OBE in 1944, CIE in 1947 and CMG in 1952, he married Ann Edith Dunnett in 1946.
